Crane

The deck of Eleanor Tarr is now 10′ from the ground which means/meant that the unloading of our worldly possessions,  the diasembly of the interior, the removal of 3000 lbs of steel ballast, the removal of the 500lb engine and transmission as well as the hoisting of welding, cutting and sandblasting gear aboard would require a crane.

The crane would be required to lift the engine clear of the boat and pivot 180 degree’s. The deck is 10 ft, the cabin top 12, the 2 ton chain hoist is 18″ tall and the engine is nearly 30″.  Thus the requirements for the crane were that it lift 500 lbs from 16 ft directly over the center line (5′ 6″ from crane base) Shown in the gallery are a couple of construction drawings, and then shots of the crane and the crane working. Since being constructed the legs have been made to fold and wheels insert to make it quite portable when collapsed. It has lifted in excess of 700 lbs 9 feet from centre
